Report: No Smoke Less Harm. “As a society, our biggest health problem is posed not by nicotine, but by the way that nicotine is consumed.”
My MUST READ thought nudger of the day: Want to Win the Culture War? Be Kind. “Whether we realize it or not, every one of us is a walking brand ambassador for our political group. When we're rude to a member of the other tribe, it's like showing them a negative advertisement for our group. It’s as if Nike were to market its shoes by showing how well they help people kick puppies.”
What Medscape Subscribers Really Thought About Its Tobacco Harm Reduction Programs. “We have the preliminary results from your program that was posted less than a month ago, and I am personally flabbergasted by the participation - over 6000 learners and over 2200 test takers!”
The FDA can’t get its story straight about reducing tobacco-related dangers. “It may have been a long afternoon for the FDA commissioner, but for the tens of millions of American adults who smoke and are unable or unwilling to quit, it has been an even longer wait for the agency to acknowledge and approve the crucial role of “tobacco harm reduction,” or THR.”
Are Nicotine Patches for Kids Who Vape a Good Idea? “Michelle, from Florida, started smoking at the age of 9, after listening to adults who said that cigarettes helped them “relax.” As a child with an undiagnosed anxiety issue, she was always being told to do just that. And the nicotine in cigarettes made it possible.”
Calling out fake news part 3... “Well readers, it’s happened again. People who should probably know better - many of whom call themselves defenders of public health - have once again been called out on X for spreading fake news about vaping.”
Graphic Health Warnings On Vapes and Oral Nicotine Pouches. “Public health advocates in Kenya are writing to the Ministry of Health highlighting their concerns that the proposed graphic health warnings for nicotine alternatives are misleading and will deter smokers from switching to potentially life-saving products.”
Let’s shift the paradigm in tobacco policy. “Instead of wasting resources on prohibitionist policies, we should invest in healthcare providers who are at the forefront of tobacco cessation efforts. By providing them with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively counsel patients on harm reduction strategies, we can make significant progress in reducing tobacco-related diseases.”

Petitions…
Some are listed on this Safer Nicotine Wiki advocacy page.
Tobacco harm reduction means different things to different people. Some may wish to achieve a nicotine-free society. Others may wish to squash the tobacco industry. Some prefer that people who choose to use nicotine use it in a form that has less risk than smoking tobacco. What we all have in common is a desire to reduce/eliminate smoking-related diseases and premature deaths. The events listed below focus on nicotine. Some events may not be supportive of reduced-risk products. Some have covered nicotine in the past but may not cover that topic every year.

I create these newsletters as a personal project. They are not affiliated with any current or past employers or groups I do volunteer work with. I believe that everyone deserves a seat at the table. If you’re interested in nicotine with a focus on THR, this newsletter is for you.
