Thinking 'bout THR Events & Opportunities

Answering reader questions and suggestions: A reader thought it was confusing to have a 2024 Event, 2024 Opportunity, 2025 Event, 2025 Opportunity, etc. format, as they had to keep scrolling and track what was what if they were only interested in events.
This edition of E&O is formatted differently. Let me know if you like it. All Events are together and in order by date. After the events section is the Opportunities section, so you must scroll down to find that part. The third section is Awareness Campaigns.
Another reader was curious about some of the events listed and the calls for papers, posters, and abstracts because they didn’t all seem tobacco-related.
That is true. Not all are specifically about tobacco/nicotine/harm reduction. I am trying to search for items where the topic could be included. Why? Because it feels to me that too many are forgetting about how many people still smoke. And I think it’s too easy to end up in a bubble of attending the same conferences and having the same core of speakers, creating a “preaching to the choir” scenario.
The only way I can think of to get the topic of combustible tobacco back in front of people is to “think outside the box (bubble)” and talk about it anywhere we can find someone to listen. So, to me, many types of conferences and themed journals should include nicotine: economics, behavior, addiction, public health, cancer, medical professionals, etc.
Please let me know if you see a journal with a themed issue or a call for abstracts for a conference where nicotine could be discussed. I’d love to add it to the list!
My other reason for looking for outside-the-box options is that some conferences/journals censor who can submit to them, and researchers need places to talk about or publish their work. I will be clueless about the caliber of some of these journals/conferences, so potential participants must check that part out independently.
Lastly, a reader requested a more balanced representation of available conferences and webinars because they felt I primarily focus on “pro THR” events. My research project for this edition of Events & Opportunities was to look for virtual events, like webinars. You will notice an increase in events by those who believe we should strive for a nicotine-free society.
I will make a point to sign up for some of those webinars by those who think differently than me. I will try to listen with curiosity. We can’t lay the groundwork for solution-oriented dialogue if we’re unwilling to listen to each other and grasp each other's perspectives.

Some of these events might not support reduced-risk products. Some have covered nicotine in the past but may not cover that topic every year.
